ADAS Calibration in Birmingham

Lane assist, auto braking and adaptive cruise only work if their cameras and radars point exactly where the car thinks they do. We diagnose and calibrate them properly.

Advanced driver assistance systems — ADAS — watch the road through windscreen cameras and bumper radars, and act on what they see: braking for obstacles, holding a lane, adapting cruise speed. Their accuracy depends entirely on calibration. A camera refitted a few millimetres out after a windscreen replacement, or a radar knocked in a parking knock, produces a system that brakes for shadows or drifts from its lane.

Our ADAS calibration service covers both halves of the job: diagnosing faults in cameras, radars, parking sensors and reversing cameras, and carrying out static and dynamic calibrations after windscreens, suspension work, wheel alignment or accident repairs. Where a system needs manufacturer targets and rigs, we tell you exactly what is required rather than pretending a basic reset suffices.

Calibration work is arranged across Birmingham — from Harborne to Sutton Coldfield — and pairs naturally with our warning light diagnostics when the dash is already complaining about the systems involved.

What's included in adas calibration

Windscreen camera calibration

Forward-facing camera systems calibrated after glass replacement or camera removal, static or dynamic as the manufacturer specifies.

Radar calibration

Front radar alignment for adaptive cruise and automatic emergency braking after bumper removal, knocks or bracket damage.

Parking sensor diagnosis

The classic constant-beep traced to the individual sensor, wiring or module responsible — no parts-cannon approach.

Reversing camera faults

Blank screens, distorted images and guideline errors traced through camera, wiring and head unit.

Lane and blind-spot systems

Lane departure, lane keeping and blind-spot monitoring faults diagnosed at module, camera and radar level.

Post-repair verification

A documented full scan after calibration confirming every assistance system is fault-free and reporting correctly.

When does a car need ADAS calibration?

The triggers are more common than most owners realise: a replacement windscreen (the camera unclips from the old glass), any removal of a bumper housing a radar, suspension or steering work, a full wheel alignment, accident repairs, and sometimes even a change of ride height from new springs or wheels. Manufacturers specify calibration after these jobs, and insurers and repair standards increasingly insist on evidence it was done.

Symptoms of a system out of calibration include lane warnings that trigger on one side only, adaptive cruise that slows for vehicles in the next lane, late or phantom emergency braking, and a persistent 'system unavailable' message. Any of those deserves a scan before the car is trusted at motorway speed on the M6.

Static versus dynamic calibration

Dynamic calibration is done on the road: the car is driven at a steady speed on well-marked roads while the system learns its surroundings — our Birmingham routes serve this well. Static calibration happens in a controlled space with manufacturer targets positioned at measured distances and angles in front of the car. Different makes specify one, the other, or both in sequence.

Honesty matters here: some static calibrations need brand-specific target boards and level floors that are workshop equipment. Where your car needs that setup, the diagnostic visit establishes it, and we explain the options — we would rather tell you than perform a 'calibration' that the system itself does not recognise.

How adas calibration works

  1. Tell us what happened

New windscreen, alignment, bumper repair or a warning message — the trigger usually identifies the system involved.

  2. Full ADAS scan

Every assistance module read, calibration status checked, faults and live alignment values reviewed.

  3. Calibrate to specification

Static or dynamic calibration carried out as the manufacturer specifies, with conditions met and recorded.

  4. Verify on the road

Systems confirmed working symmetrically and fault-free, with the results documented for your records or insurer.

Frequently asked questions

Do I really need calibration after a new windscreen?

If your car has a camera behind the windscreen — most cars from the last decade do — then yes, manufacturers specify calibration after glass replacement, because the camera's exact position changes. Some systems self-check and warn you if it is skipped; others simply work less accurately, which is worse because you never know.

How much does ADAS calibration cost in the UK?

Market prices vary widely with the system and method: dynamic calibrations commonly sit around £150-£250 and static target calibrations £250-£400 as UK guide figures. Your quote depends on your car's systems and what triggered the need — we confirm it before any work. Our diagnostics cost guide explains calibration pricing in context.

What happens if ADAS is not calibrated?

The systems keep working but aim wrong: lane keeping may favour one side, emergency braking can trigger late or for the wrong targets, and adaptive cruise can read the wrong lane. There is also growing scrutiny from insurers after accident repairs, where missing calibration evidence can complicate claims.

Can you fix a parking sensor that beeps constantly?

Yes — a constant tone usually means one sensor has failed, is iced or contaminated, or its wiring is damaged, and the system defaults to warning. We identify the individual sensor from live data, then test its wiring before recommending replacement. It is rarely the whole system, whatever the dash suggests.

My reversing camera has stopped working. Where do you start?

With a scan of the camera and infotainment modules, then power and signal tests at the camera itself. Common causes are water ingress in the camera, a broken wire in the tailgate hinge loom — flexed thousands of times — and head-unit software faults. The test sequence separates them without dismantling half the car first.

Does wheel alignment affect ADAS?

It can. The camera's view of the road is referenced to the car's thrust line, so a misaligned car points its assistance systems slightly off-axis. Manufacturers often specify alignment checks before or alongside calibration. If your car pulls, wears tyres unevenly or the steering wheel sits off-centre, alignment belongs on the list too.

Will calibration clear my ADAS warning light?

If the light is on because calibration is incomplete or lost, yes — successful calibration and a clear verification scan is exactly the fix. If the light comes from a damaged camera or radar, calibration cannot cure it until that fault is repaired; the scan tells us which situation you are in before any money is spent.

Can ADAS calibration be done at my home?

Dynamic calibrations are road-based, so they start wherever the car is. Static calibrations need a flat, measured space and target equipment — we assess your car and location honestly and arrange the right setting for the method your manufacturer specifies.
